Westhampton Congregational Church was organized on September 1, 1779.  In 1931 the Congregational and Christian Churches merged to form the Congregational Christian Church.  In 1957 the Congregational Christian Church merged with the Evangelical and Reformed Church to become the United Church of Christ.  In 1961 this church voted to accept and commit to this merger.  At the Annual Meeting in 1990 it was voted to change the name to Westhampton Congregational Church, United Church of Christ.  At a special meeting on February 7, 2010, it was voted to change the name to Westhampton Congregational United Church of Christ.

Leadership

The governance of the church is vested in its members who exercise the right of control in all its affairs.

 

The Westhampton Congregational United Church of Christ is an independent ecclesiastical body and maintains its historical congregational tradition of autonomy and self-government. 

 

The administrative body of the church is the Church Council elected by church members. 

 

The Church Council is the authoritative decision making body of the church, acting as proxy for the members and in      their best interests.

 

Voting members of the Council shall be the Pastor, the Moderator, the Clerk, the Treasurer and a representative from Worship and Spirituality, Christian Education, Outreach, Stewardship, PropertyEndowment, Widening Our Welcome, and Women’s Fellowship, in addition to three at-large members of Council.
