Christian Faith and Worship
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.—1 John 4:7-8 from the New Revised Standard Version
Rooted
in love, Christians do God’s work through helping others in any kind of
need. By seeking to love God and others, Christians must
diligently
maintain relationships and remain mindful that humanity is not the
greatest power in the universe.
Christians recognize the
Bible as an important guide in life. Christians vary in their
approaches to it, but acknowledge it is central to the faith.
While
Christianity is often depicted as a fixed tradition which must be fully
accepted, the Christian Bible—made up of both Hebrew and Christian
scriptures-- contains diverse religious perspectives. It
offers three
different Creation stories; two in Genesis and one in John.
It offers
four different perspectives on the life, teachings and miracles of
Jesus, in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The other Christian
writings—letters of early Christians and the book of Revelation—offer
additional views of Jesus. You may find your own views borrow
from, or
build upon, these historical perspectives. We understand any
view of
Jesus that brings you into a richer relationship with God to be a
blessing, and we encourage you to explore different understandings in
our company.
